Transfer balances?

My husband returned from Iraq with a $9,000 balance on one of his USAA (military) credit cards. We paid off $3,000. We%26#039;re constantly recieving credit card%26#039;s in the mail, offering us 0% APR for up to 12 months. My mother has suggested we transfer our current balance from the USAA credit card to one of the 0% APR credit cards. This way we pay off as much as we can till the 0% is over in those 12 months, at least we won%26#039;t be paying interest. However, as soon as the 12 months are over, cancel that card and do it with another one. Is this how it works? Is this even possible?

It %26quot;might%26quot; be a good idea, only if pay it all off within the intro period and have it on one card only. Too many open-and-closed accounts within a short period of time, as well as frequent transfer balances, adversely effect your credit rating. However, those %26quot;pre-approved%26quot; offers are not exactly what they seem. You%26#039;ll get the 0% interest, but unless you have excellent credit history, you won%26#039;t get the $9000 credit-line you%26#039;ll be asking for. You%26#039;ll most likely get something much smaller. If you decide to do it: apply by phone. That way, you will know immediately if they%26#039;ll give you the $9000 credit-line, or something close to it. If they won%26#039;t...don%26#039;t open one.

Transfer balances? loanNo problem! The only reason I know this is because I learnt the hard way. Good luck! Report It

|||Possible, but read all the fine print.

My husband did that with a card and if you made any new purchases with the card, that rate was extrememly high and the payments kept going to pay off the 0% portion so the interest charges kept getting higher on the new purchases.

Also, some of them hope you forget and then charge back interest if you don%26#039;t have the full balance paid off in the 12 months.

Sometimes it can look bad on your credit rating if you play the balance transfer game too much.|||Yes, many people do it. Play them at their own game. They have no hesitation in exploiting you.
