Settlement for a charged off account...?

If I have a credit card company that is offering me a settlement for a charge account that has been charged off, and I decide to pay the settlement will they remove this from my credit and allow my Beacon score to increase or how does it work any suggestions?

Settlement for a charged off account...?loan company

yes you should take it. First try to negotiate it down further, there%26#039;s never any harm in that. Next agree to pay the settlement if they agree to provide in writing that the settlement payment pays the account IN FULL. That%26#039;s important because if you pay less than the original debt they, or some attack dog collection agency, can at a later date come after you for the remainder, that%26#039;s been know to happen. Once you pay it off check your credit report to make sure that account has been taken out of collections and reflects paid in full.

Settlement for a charged off account...? loan

Nope. Your score will tank just like you had not paid it at all. So if you settle, settle for as little as possible, and get it in writing before sending money, and they do not get any access to your checking account. Credit card collectors are scum and liars....that%26#039;s their job.|||Go to www.suzeorman.com

this is a site about credit repair and maintenance, I believe that it is possible for you to still save your credit, if you ask them to remove their names off of your credit report, Suze has it on her site about how you should handle the whole situation. good luck.

Do you worry about paying your bills on time?

I always forget about paying my bills that I don%26#039;t see as important like mobile phone bills and internet bills. I put them on the fridge or leave them laying around somewhere and they always go overdue, I don%26#039;t really care because I know they wont cut off my service immediately anyway, for example my internet compant only offers direct debit from credit card to pay my bill. My credit card has only a $200 limit as it is for online purchases and we don%26#039;t want debt so I NEVER know when the net company is going to bill me and pretty much every time they try to take the money it is not in there and I fix them up a week later when they try again. Is this slackness going to affect us in a negative way?

Do you worry about paying your bills on time?commericial loan

I only worry about having money to pay my bills on time...want to lend me some of that 200,000.... :)

Actually, I keep a very detailed account of my spending each month. Before the new month (I already have September laid out) I create a list of what bills will need to be paid, when they are due, how much the monthly payment is, and if I have a total amount due (in the case of cc) I include that. As soon as I pay one off, I cross it off the list with a red marker. Once the payment clears with my bank, I put an X next to it.

Your habits will only affect you in the long run (as the first poster explained.) I know you are going to be getting a house, but for me (in an apt.) if I am late on my cable, phone, electricity, etc. it is grounds for them to terminate my lease. Also, if you were to let your phone bill go for a while, they can cancel your contract and demand full payment at once or they will pass it along to a collection agency (and that has happened to me as well....)

Do you worry about paying your bills on time?

loan

Yes overtime this will become habitual and will extend to other areas of your life.

Best way to do, say you are paid on 30th of every month, call up your gas company, electricity company, internet company, phone company, water company etc, and say, look, I am paid 30th of every month, I want to pay your bills immediately when I get paid. Instead of paying overdue bills, you are always on time, and you can pay by internet banking / phone banking in one go and you know you have enough money to cover your bills. The left over will be the real money left for you to save / spend.|||Thanks for reminding me. I have to go pay my phone bill|||Every time you are late on a bill you are hurting your credit score which will effect you later on in life

I have received payments from each of the sites listed in it !|||Check these tutorilas about making money online.

http://www.ixdoctor.110mb.com/index.html|||The best site I have found is cash crate. Never ever do anything that asks for money upfront! Cash crate is a place where you get paid to do surveys/questionnaires or you can sign up for free offers. It can be a little repetitive filling out offers, but you can make anywhere from $40 - .40 per survey or offer you do. You get paid once a month as long as you earn over $10 a month. On average I make $12 an hour. You can sign up here if interested. http://www.*************/index.php?ref=1...

This is the most honest site I have found. It tells you up front exactly what is required for each survey or offer. Some offers may require a credit card to sign up, but it tells you ahead of time so you don%26#039;t waste your time filling out stuff. Unlike sites like panda research they wait until you fill everything out and then say oh you need a credit card. Now only a few require credit cards. I personally prefer to do the surveys, they are quick and the money adds up fast. They also have monthly contests where you can win more money! No I don%26#039;t guarantee you can quit your job, but it will bring in a few hundred a month if you do one hour a day! Referral program where you can earn 10-20%. Also, they have a list of online stores you can shop at and earn cash back, from 5-100% back. Even WAL-MART.com is on their list!

I am paying a car off. Is this the right way to go about it?

My daughter had to have a car after high school to be able to get to a job. She found the job, and there was no other way for her to get a car unless I funded the vehicle loan. We tried and I could not even listen to the swindlers in the payday loan business.

I recieved an offer on my Chase credit card for 4.6% until the balance is paid in full, so I bought her a $4,500 toyota with the card and she has remained faithful paying me $80 every 2 weeks.

We live in the middle of no where, so she had to have something reliable to drive to her Walmart job 25 miles away.

I was nervous about loaning her such a large sum of money, but the alternative was to watch her do nothing.

My daughter does not know I am paying $300 every 2 weeks along with the $80 she gives me on this car to get it paid off.

Did I do the right thing? She just lost her job at Walmart for starting a relationship with her manager. She has an interview at JC Penny. I was a single mother and her dad does not help her

I think you are ebing the best parent you can be. I wouldn%26#039;t tell her that you have been paying on it though. Make sure she thinks it is her responsibility to pay it off in full. I would give her an ultimatum also. If she can%26#039;t get a job and pay for it she doesn%26#039;t get to keep the car it becomes yours. That way she knows you mean business and your not just giving it to her.|||Why are you paying such a large amount each month.

Settlement Debts OR Bankruptcy?

I just accepted an offer to settle a credit card debt, at the end of the disclaimer, they slipped in that the IRS would be sending a letter because the portion not paid due is now taxable. And at first, I was understanding that on my credit report it would say %26#039;account settled for a lesser amount,%26#039; that this was not to be a negative mark, but I was told that it will in fact leave a negative mark. So my question is should I consider filing bankruptcy instead of taking the option for settlement, then get taxed on the remaining amount from IRS?

Settlement Debts OR Bankruptcy?child tax credit

Honestly...it does not really benefit you to pay debt that is already listed as negative on your credit report. Although the debt is old, you are still legally responsible for it. Ch. 7 bankruptcy may be an option for you as it will erase the negative charged off debt and help with you debt to income ratio. Despite what some of the responders may say, you can recover from bankruptcy. It is possible and easy to reestablish and obtain credit after bankruptcy. Hoped this helped.

Settlement Debts OR Bankruptcy? loan

If you file chapter 7 you will not be billed by the IRS on credit card debt. They will bill you if you have borrowed a second mortgage and then defaulted. A bankruptcy won%26#039;t be much worse on your credit than a settlement.|||i don%26#039;t know about the bankruptcy part. as for the settlement, if the settlement is greater than $600 (i think), than you%26#039;ll get a 1099. you%26#039;ll need to report that as income to the irs. depending on your tax situation %26amp; deductions, it may be to your benefit.

from personal experience, i received 1099 totaling $7000; however, because of my tax situation %26amp; itemized deductions, it only cost me $500--meaning my refund was reduced by $500.

good luck

Ancestry.com?

How easy is it to cancel a membership to Ancestry.com? I%26#039;m interested in a 14 day free trial they%26#039;re offering. They want my credit card number and say I can cancel at any time, but I know some of these places make that VERY difficult. Has anyone ever canceled an Ancestry.com account and if so, how difficult/easy was it? Also, do the amount of records they have available make it worth the cost?

Thanks!

Ancestry.com?credit card offers

Before you do this, you might check out your county library (and not for books!) My library has a FREE link to ancestry.com that gets you access to everything ... It has saved me a ton of money! Just call the reference desk at the library and they should be able to help you.

Ancestry.com? loan

It was pretty easy for me to cancel. I didn%26#039;t have any problems. They tried to keep me, but I was done with what I needed and left. The sales person I talked to wasn%26#039;t very good at being persuasive. As for what they have on their site, it is worth it for awhile. They have all the census records indexed and all digitized. It is easy to navigate. As for the rest, you might some find some things, but then you might not find a lot. They have been trying to get more onto their website, but there are so many records in existence, it would take a lifetime to put them all on-line. It is a great place to start and you might stay there for a couple of months, but after-wards, you will still have to find other places to find records, which is fine, genealogy should be a lifetime pursuit anyway.|||It%26#039;s really easy to cancel, my friend did. I myself went onto the world collection, and I love it. I am very satisfied with the service I get, wouldn%26#039;t want to cancel.|||very easy, No Tronble at all.

I%26#039;ve done it before. Remember it is only free once!

I think it is worth the cost!

If you notice most of the %26quot;Free%26quot; sites have links to Ancestry.com. They are the first and I think the best and they are always adding new stuff.

I keep my %26quot;Free%26quot; tree as well and try to keep it up dated so I will get contacts from people who are searching for the same family as I am and are new or aren%26#039;t on ancestry.com but I get a lot more contacts from ANCESTRY.COM

If you have the money to spare then Start on Ancestry.com and stay with it. You will be able to built faster and find record easier.|||Yes the records are worth the cost. I never tried the freebie so I don%26#039;t have cancellation experience but they%26#039;re good to do business with. What you may want to do after the 14day is sign back up for the minimal of census %26amp; whatever goes with that. You%26#039;ll always want to be chasing down someone you%26#039;re hot on the trail of, on census at 1:15 AM in your tee %26amp; jammies.

You can find other ways to access census but none with what ancestry.com has to offer - so far.|||Justme is right. Many libraries have access to Ancestry.com or Heritagequest, both of which carry the census. I have had the free trial and cancelled it with little effort. The thing to remember is that you have to cancel BEFORE the 14 days is up, or they will charge your credit card. I did the free trial a few years ago. The reason why I cancelled then was because I didn%26#039;t feel like the number of records on Ancestry.com justified the cost; however, when I came back to it, they had a whole lot more. They are constantly adding new material every month. I think it is totally worth it now. Also keep in mind that they have different packages. If you think that you will benefit only from the U.S. or U.K. collection and not the whole %26quot;World%26quot; package, there is a cheaper rate you can pay.

If you cancel, they will of course try to keep you like any other company out there tries to keep its customers, but stick to your guns if you are adamant on leaving. Many customer service departments are trained to hear the word no from a customer a certain number of times before they complete cancellation. Good luck.|||Of course when you call to cancel, they will try to sell you different types of subscriptions (one that costs less for these databases only, one that costs less if you do a full year subscription, etc.). But if you simply repond, %26quot;No thank you, I%26#039;m sure I%26#039;d like to cancel%26quot;, then you should have no problem cancelling your account.

Is it worth the cost? It all depends on how much you will use it. I think it%26#039;s worth the cost because I use it every week for census records, etc. My advice is to really dig into it during your two week free trial and see if it%26#039;s something that you would pay for on a regular basis.

Good luck,

Dave

The last time I rented a car, I was asked if I was taking it out of state. Just another ploy to add charges?credit union

The reason they ask you for your credit card is to protect you and them for several reasons one is to make sure you do not take the car to Mexico, if you do then you are soley responsible for it for getting stolen and damaged. Mexico is very well known to do distructed things to other peoples cars there. and also another reason is in case you get stuck in another state who is going to get you another car? Ok you are in tennessee, if you drive unlimited mileage to Florida and you get into a wreck and how are you going to get back to Tennessee? Its not a ploy to get you to pay more. Believe me its not. but I will tell you is this. Read your contract very well. Also Make sure your car that you are rented is without ding, bangs damages and let them see it, if it is, tell them before you drive it away. and make sure you fill up the tank before you bring it back or they will charge you 4.50 per gallon a gas. Also read the contract closely the tiniest small print and dont let them take you, If you made the reservation to pay for a car sub compact for 199.00 a week that is 7 full days and the bring the car back before 12 that next day you should not be charged more than the amount plus taxes and other fees, the fees are for cleaning the car, tax fees in your state, and if you do take the car out of state there are out of state taxes too. if they give you a bunch of crap you can report them to the BBB AND STATE ATTORNEYS OFFICE in your town. I know it happened to me ten years ago.Make copies of everything if it does not feel right you have a right to complain about it and get it done right your cc card compan will stand by you. NOTE: Get peoples names by the time you complain they do not work there anymore mostly all of these agents are sub contracted out of the area.

The last time I rented a car, I was asked if I was taking it out of state. Just another ploy to add charges? loan

Since your rental car is registered in the state you%26#039;ve rented it they try to keep their cars in their own states. If you hire one in Vermont and drop it of in New York you might have to pay additional charges for the transfer of that car back to Vermont.|||Their insurance is based on States of operation. Is it better to take a settlement offer or pay off the full amount owed?

I%26#039;ve used several credit cards negligently in my youth. Now, many of them have sold my account to a 3rd party. Most of these 3rd parties are reaching out to me with settlement offers and different types of payment plans to pay only a portion of the debt back.

Is it better for my credit to take those offers or opt to pay the balance in full on my own timetable?

Is it better to take a settlement offer or pay off the full amount owed?honda finance

Depends. If they offer you a settlement and you pay it, they may write settlement on your credit report. Although the account was paid in full, it was still settled. If you offer to make payments in full on their time table, all is good. If you do it on yours, your credit will continue to go down.

All and all, since they went to collections, your credit is already shot. If you want to get out from under it and start anew, just settle and be done with it. It will still be on your credit for 7 years.

Transfer balances?

My husband returned from Iraq with a $9,000 balance on one of his USAA (military) credit cards. We paid off $3,000. We%26#039;re constantly recieving credit card%26#039;s in the mail, offering us 0% APR for up to 12 months. My mother has suggested we transfer our current balance from the USAA credit card to one of the 0% APR credit cards. This way we pay off as much as we can till the 0% is over in those 12 months, at least we won%26#039;t be paying interest. However, as soon as the 12 months are over, cancel that card and do it with another one. Is this how it works? Is this even possible?

Transfer balances?heart rate monitor

It %26quot;might%26quot; be a good idea, only if pay it all off within the intro period and have it on one card only. Too many open-and-closed accounts within a short period of time, as well as frequent transfer balances, adversely effect your credit rating. However, those %26quot;pre-approved%26quot; offers are not exactly what they seem. You%26#039;ll get the 0% interest, but unless you have excellent credit history, you won%26#039;t get the $9000 credit-line you%26#039;ll be asking for. You%26#039;ll most likely get something much smaller. If you decide to do it: apply by phone. That way, you will know immediately if they%26#039;ll give you the $9000 credit-line, or something close to it. If they won%26#039;t...don%26#039;t open one.

Transfer balances? loanNo problem! The only reason I know this is because I learnt the hard way. Good luck! Report It

|||Possible, but read all the fine print.

My husband did that with a card and if you made any new purchases with the card, that rate was extrememly high and the payments kept going to pay off the 0% portion so the interest charges kept getting higher on the new purchases.

Also, some of them hope you forget and then charge back interest if you don%26#039;t have the full balance paid off in the 12 months.

Sometimes it can look bad on your credit rating if you play the balance transfer game too much.|||Yes, many people do it. Play them at their own game. They have no hesitation in exploiting you.

Totally FREE ipods (ipod touch, nano, video, or even music cards)!!!!?

hey, i recently found out about a website that is totally legit and is not a scam, so ive heard. All you do is go to www.ipods.freepay.com (freeipods.com) choose an ipod/music money card, subscribe one of the offers, and refer five friends! so easy!

The ipod is totally free and ive been told its not a scam.YOU DONT GIVE OUT ANY CREDIT CARD NUMBERS, but you give out your address just so it can be sent to you. Although the ipod is free you have to subscribe, and after one month you can unsubscribe. THE SHIPPING IS FREE TOO! how cool!?

So, im telling you this for two reasons. For one, i would like to share the excitement, and give you a chance to get a free ipod. Second, i need five people to do the same as me so i can refer them, so i can get my ipod too! If you would like a free ipod, email me at debras123@yahoo.com!

I would really appreciate it! =]

Sites like freeofferspot are taking the newscasts and watermarking their logo onto the bottom of the screen when the story in the video really has nothing to do with them. To visit the site the newscasts are talking about, follow this link:

http://ipods.freepay.com/?r=43167814

For the newscasts follow this link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4h0cWB_iV...

Ignore the freeofferspot.com logo. Like I said, they%26#039;re taking credit when the newscast does not even involve them.

For the full G4TV video, follow this link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZMaP73Uc...

As for the process, that itself is rather straightfoward.

(1. Go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZMaP73Uc...

(2. Create an account by simply entering your email address and a password. You will then have to enter your shipping info.

(3. Complete one of the offers listed in order to finish registering your account. Note that immediate cancellation of any offer runs a really good risk of the site finding out through the sponsor, which will result in them putting a hold on your account. My advice would be to stick with whatever offer you pick until you%26#039;re ipod actually arrives at your house.

( I reccomend the ringtone one as all you need is your cellphone number, so you don%26#039;t run the risk that you do when putting your credit card information into an online site.)

(4. Refer 5 friends using your unique referral link. In order to recieve credit, they must all complete at least 1 of the listed offers.

(5. Submit your account for review once you have 5 referrals. They will then check your account as well as your referrals to make sure that everyone abided by the Terms and Conditions.

(6. Once approved, you can cash in your referrals for a free ipod.

Also, I do trade referrals if you are trying to get something off of one of those less reputable sites. Email me at blackdraggie@hotmail.com if interested. But please note that I will not sign up and give you a referral until you complete an offer on my site and my account is credited.

Okay, I%26#039;ve seen alot of them like cash crate, treasure trooper and other ones like that, but some of those surveys just want you to complete offers, and you need a credit card (which I don%26#039;t have). But I just wanted to know if they really work and they do pay you or if you just take survey after survey and they make you go in circles of %26quot;free%26quot; offers and stuff and if its all just a bunch of BS, because I really do want a little extra spending money and I cant really work until Feb. when I turn 16.

The rule, as always, is to stay away from those that ask you to pay before you can get these surveys.

Legitimate market survey companies such as Pinecone Research recruit members based on demographic characteristics -- e.g. mothers of babies 0-12 years old -- and will send surveys of products and services targeting this demographic group. Pinecone Research, however, pays only $5 per survey -- you%26#039;re definitely not going to be rich with that. They can give you anywhere from 1-5 at most surveys in a month.

Other companies simply ask you to answer as many research as possible, and you don%26#039;t earn anything just the chance to win at a raffle (which I find lame).

OK, but they will say that I did not COMPLETE any surveys (which is technically true) because I did not qualify in the group they were looking to survey. I did the preliminary info surveys that they use to determine if you are who they want and some of them take 10 minutes or so.. so I count them as taking a survey!! I started to keep track of them on my website http://www.tom-olsen.com but after entering the info I stopped keeping track for a while ( I had already done the 200 + surveys BEFORE I started the tracking on my site).. I also added in some that I think are SCAMS.. because they want YOU to PAY.. which is bogus to me. I figure any legitimate survey company will not charge me for info.. neither would someone who recruits me for a legit company...

Do you know of any ways to make money online that do not require ANY money to start?

I am trying to find out if there are any good ways to make money online that do not require money to start with. I also wonder about all these ones where you are %26quot;paid to read%26quot; the emails or whatever, because then you actually have to complete the offers, like apply for a credit card or buy something or whatever.

This is NOT free!

I want to know of a job that I could do online that I do not have to pay to do it. When was the last time you went to a job interview and they told you they would give you a job if you just give them $39.95 first? It just doesn%26#039;t happen. You don%26#039;t PAY to get a JOB.

There are no online work-at-home %26quot;jobs%26quot;.

When you apply for a job offline, in the bricks and mortar world, do you have to pay anything? Of course not. It should be the same in the online world. If you are asked to pay any money, at best, it is a business opportunity, but more likely it is just a scam.

Be very careful that you don%26#039;t get scammed.

I do affiliate marketing online. I%26#039;ve been doing it for a year and I%26#039;m getting ready to quit my regular job, as I am now making over $10k per month. It takes dedicated work, at minimum a small amount of initial working capital, decent organizational skills, and persistence, but you can make a living at it if you stick with it.

But that is a business.

If you want something easy, with no investment, you could probably make $500 to $1000 per month getting paid by companies to write postings on blogs about their products. That%26#039;s about the only legitimate way that I know of to earn money online without any investment.

I created the Income Team Builder with folks like you in mind.

The residual income program (charges a monthly fee) will provide you with a monthly income as your team grows.

I don%26#039;t like the paid survey and offer deals because I know I would forget to cancel my trial offer before the period is up and survey sites provide your home mailing address to EVERYONE. I don%26#039;t need anymore junk email.

I do recommend the paid to read programs because there is no catch other than you have to click forever sometimes just earn 2 cents.

What I have done is take a handful of the PTC programs that pay higher, combined them with the residual income program into one system that lets you build both. I included an action plan that requires you to invest 2 hours and 15 minutes per day, Monday thru Friday. This will allow YOU to earn enough to pay for the residual income program (which you will find very useful as well BTW) and promote to build your team.

Although you will earn commissions for your referrals, I wanted a system where you would focus more on earning your own versus depending on others.

Taking the focus off the money, keeps you honest I think.

So, now you CAN make money without spending up front. I invite you to try out the system (free) and do keep in touch with me either via email or through the member forum. I will help to achieve whatever it is you%26#039;re looking for.

Cheers,

Ed|||look at my profile, and visit the site under %26quot;about me%26quot;...sign up there....here is some information about the site:

This is a site from which you are given the chance to earn money. What you have to do is complete surveys and offers for companies that want the public%26#039;s opinion. By doing this, you are able to earn money very easily for simply giving your opinion or trying out sample products. This is a great service that allows one to work from home, on their spare time, at their leisure, and still bring in a nice sum of money every month. People have made up to $1000 easily on this site by just working on it in their spare time. It is not going to replace a real job%26#039;s salary, but it is a very nice bonus. There are also many features on this web site, such as contests and special surveys, from which you can redeem extra prizes that would be sent to you with your monthly cheque, such as iPods, Xbox 360s, PSPs, digital cameras, gift certificates, and much more.

Cheques are sent monthly, and usually arrive about a week or a week and a half into the next month. No payment from you is ever required, not to sign up, not EVER. Unlike other sites that try to scam people out of their money, this site never requires you to pay them.

%26quot;If the site doesn%26#039;t get paid from me, then why would they have this service going?%26quot; - The site doesn%26#039;t get paid directly from you, but when you complete an offer or survey, they also get paid a small portion of what you earned yourself. For example, if you complete a survey about computers let%26#039;s say, you would earn maybe $2 and the web site itself would recieve $0.50 from the company also for getting you to complete the survey. These surveys take little time at all, most taking up less than even 1 or 2 minutes of your time.

Fraud is also a big deal on the Internet these days, and this site recognizes that. That is why they ask for ONLY three bits of information: Your name, email address and your home address. Yup, that is all. No credit card information, no banking information, nothing like that. All they require is your name and address so that your cheque can be sent to your home every month. Your email address is only required to confirm that you have done the offers and surveys. Fortunately, no spam mail or junk mail is ever sent out by this site and your information is never shared with any other company.

Personally I have been a member of this website, along with thousands of other satisfied users, for approximately 1.5 years now and have earned well over $9100 by working in my spare time. This web site has been great to me, also the members and administrator are very friendly, and are always there to help you with a question or problem you may be having. So far, I%26#039;ve listed only positives about this site, because I can%26#039;t think of a single negative thing about it. Earn money in your spare time, at no cost to you...Easy as that!

I have learned that there are very few good deals online.

My family celebrates Christmas on the Epiphany (January 6) when the wise men brought the gifts. You can get bargains galore after Christmas and buy your kids much more. It also gives the kids something to look foward to when all the hype is over.|||ebay.com, amazon.com, cbd.com|||One year my husbands family did a white elephant gift exchange where we all bought cheap stuff between $1-$5 and played the white elephant game. It was so much fun and left us laughing for hours, and there was some neat little gifts. Way better than stressing about how much to spend on all the relatives. I plan to suggest this again for this year, becuase we just bought a new house and are %26#039;budgeting%26#039; too.|||It%26#039;s difficult, I know.

Are you at all %26quot;crafty%26quot;? There are a lot of good ideas on-line for homemade gifts. They aren%26#039;t all %26quot;corny%26quot; and personally, I always enjoy something that someone took the time to %26quot;make%26quot; for me.

The only way for deffered payments is to use the credit plan with the company. Then once the order processes (within about 2-3 business days), you can call in and pay off the full amount with your credit card. That doesn%26#039;t help with deffered payments with the company, but you can make payments to your credit card. If you want to check out the other catalogs that are affiliated with Swiss Colony, you can scroll to the bottom of the Swiss Colony page, and there are links to all their sister companies.

Do we have to pay for this?

Went out to eat. Place accepts credit cards. Placed our order, ate dinner. Went to pay and their credit card machine wouldn%26#039;t work. Offered them check. They refused and said I had to leave and drive to a ATM and bring them back the money. I refused to do that. They then decided that we could just leave and leave our name and phone number, and they would call us to come back in the next day, after they get their machine working. So we left the place without paying as they would NOT accept a check, AFTER THEIR equipment failed. Now do I really have to go back and pay this bill? All they have is a name and phone number. I do know that morally it is the right thing to do, I%26#039;m asking about legally. Didn%26#039;t they REFUSE TO ACCEPT PAYMENT when we offered a different method??? Can they make us drive back out there just because their machine was broke?

Do we have to pay for this?

I think you may be exploring your intelligence, and raising a good question just for debate. It is, in fact, legal for you to not pay the bill. It should be their responsibility to tell you beforehand if their machine is malfunctioning. As long as your credit card company%26#039;s sticker is on their window or door, they are obliged to cater to your provider. Technically, they did not refuse to accept your payment, but were under curcumstances that deemed it impossible to. Just pay the bill, really, instead of having that bad karma.

I agree with the karma thing but I don%26#039;t agree for paying for terrible service. Tell them to make an offer.|||I would post them a check.|||Yes you still have to pay for the meal. You realize that, right?

Why not just mail them a check? They might call you an @sshole (to themselves) but they will probably just try to cash it, and as long as it doesn%26#039;t bounce, then you will be ok, without having to drive back there.

Oh if it is less than 15mins away then there is something wrong with you. Just so you know.|||Yes, you are legally obligated to pay.

Somewhere on the premises is a sign that says %26quot;No checks%26quot; or %26quot;We do not accept personal checks%26quot;, or something like that. That protects them and takes the leg out from under you.

If you don%26#039;t pay, you could possibly receive a visit from a city official wearing a badge and a gun, although I%26#039;m sure the restaurant would try other measures instead.

You could mail them a money order, if you REALLY don%26#039;t want to go back.|||Since I%26#039;m assuming you left your information, that%26#039;s likely indirect consent to what they asked you to do - that is, give your payment at another time. Private companies have every right to refuse certain forms of payment (ie personal checks). You made a deal with them, you should honor it.|||I work in retail, and even when the system was down for several hours, and our registers were not approving credit card transactions, we still had ways to get them approved. It%26#039;s dreadfully annoying to call in credit cards, but it%26#039;s not at all impossible.

Why didn%26#039;t they just have you leave your credit card information with them to run at a later time?|||They are not obligated to take a check just because you want to use one if that is not their normal course of business. Checks are not legal tender.

Why are you making this such a big deal? You sound like loads of fun - as in %26quot;free%26quot; loads.

College student in desperate need of a Laptop. Need some help locating a company who can help?

Ok, I am a 28 year old guy with 2 kids and I am trying to further my education. I am currently in community college and having a very hard time advancing with my lack of technology. I am in desperate need of a Laptop computer which I can bring to class and to work so I can finish assignments on time, create powerpoint ect ect. However, I am a former US Marine, and while I was in the Corps I made a few financial mistakes which has destroyed my credit. So credit cards are out of the question. The school recommended me to this website. They said there are companies out there that offer guaranteed credit/grants ect for students. I can not find any... I need help

Talk to the financial aids office at your school to find out if you can request for additional unsubsidized Stafford loan or something similar to it.

What is the best way to handle a store line of credit once you no longer use the account?

I recently made a one time purchase from a store with a 0% APR credit line in which they offered. I have paid the balance in full and never intend on using the card again. Is the best option still to not close the account?

What is the best way to handle a store line of credit once you no longer use the account?

As long as you have other credit accounts, then yes, it is generally best to close it. Credit bureaus give you additional points for accounts that have been open for many years. However, those points generally are not as high for a store card as they would be for a major credit card account.

What is the best way to handle a store line of credit once you no longer use the account? loan

The credit scoring formulas are complex and can ding your credit for either opening OR closing accounts. But generally speaking for the scenario you mentioned, I would definitely close it out and not take out additional cards in the future...even though the retailer offers a one-time 10% discount to get you to do it (they do this for a reason...it%26#039;s still profitable for them!). Even if closing it were to ding your credit, it wouldn%26#039;t likely be significant at this point.|||As long as the loan balance is not that high, there is no need for closing it. If it is high, your credit report will reflect it by showing a lot of credit available ot you, making a lender more weary at lending you money. If you were to max it out, would you still be able to pay there loan back. But what if you need it again 5 years from now.

I can handle rent, utilities, food, insurance and so on, but i haven%26#039;t been able to pay my three credit cards. we live in michigan and my husban hasn%26#039;t been able to find another job. i owe arount 2,000 on three credit cards. will they take you to court? i really don%26#039;t know what to do. i tried a credit counseling place, but the credit card companies wouldn%26#039;t accept their offers. we are also paying the IRS monthly because of not having anything to claim every year, so that added up. every day seems like a nightmare. please help.

My husband quit his job last last summer and i had major surgery at this same time. our bills got very behind

This happens all too often.. I know that on each credit card you have a minimum payment. and as long as you keep paying this mininum you will not be sent to collections.. HOWEVER the minimum is normally enough to only cover the interest, so consider payin a little more than the mininum.. And honestly if hubby can%26#039;t find work for over a year maybe he isnt lookin in right places. or looking for work that doesn%26#039;t exist. I would suggest you tell him its time to consider a new career~

My husband quit his job last last summer and i had major surgery at this same time. our bills got very behind loan

Try reasoning with the credit card companies again. Either they take the offers or you declare bankruptcy right? They can get their money overtime, or they won%26#039;t get a penny. Put it in those terms and see what they would prefer.|||Check with your town officials to see if there is some kind of program in your community to help you guys get back on your feet.

I don%26#039;t mean to sound crude, but, there%26#039;s GOTTA be a job out there! Why did your husband quit his job, anyway? If he doesn%26#039;t like the conditions, it%26#039;s better than not having a job at

all.

Good luck.|||Having lived in Michigan I compleatly understand and sympothize with your situation.

I can%26#039;t believe that the credit card companies have refused the credit counsleors offers. Usually the credit counsleors have been doing this for so long they know exactly what to offer and what the companies will take. I don%26#039;t know who you used but I have used Greenpath Debt Solutions and they were wonderful (www.greenpath.com).

Have you contacted your local Department of Human Services. It sounds like you have no income and they should be able to assist you with rent and food (http://www.michigan.gov/dhs). Also you should try contacting your local Michigan Works office to help your husband find a job.

My mother has been a vollunteer services coordinator with the State of Michigan for more than 30 years. If you go and fill out papers and they tell you that they cannot help you for some reason or another ask to speak with their vollunteer services coordinator. This person can often help you find assistance that is not necessarily income based (for example, I have some friends who both work full time but they were behind on their mortgage to the point of forclosure, the did not qualify for assistance because your income has to be almost non existant to qualify...she was able to help them with a grant she had access to that paid one month%26#039;s mortgage payement).

We wound up having to move to another state with a better income base to find better jobs. Unfourtonatly Michigan is last in the nation when it comes to unemployment. It is a difficult situation, too bad Granholm couldn%26#039;t make it better. Good luck and hang in there!

Telemarketer....?

%26quot;Well, he decided to retrace the voyage of Ferdinand Magellan.%26quot;

%26quot;Really now?%26quot;

%26quot;Ay, he%26#039;ll probably be back in about ten years. He%26#039;s a big traveller and spontaneously signs up for this stuff.%26quot;

%26quot;Well, where can we reach him?%26quot;

%26quot;Well, I don%26#039;t know. He calls every now and then. Yesterday he called from Spain.%26quot;

%26quot;Well, tell him that the ___________ credit card company was going to offer him a new deal.%26quot;

Why are companies like Diamond allowed to use sexual discrimination?

Sheila%26#039;s Wheels do it as well. I%26#039;m sure there%26#039;s a law against this kind of discrimination, so how are they able to get away with it? I%26#039;ve heard people say it%26#039;s okay because statistics show that men are involved in more accidents than men. Well by that token, I can take some statistics the show a large proportion of credit card fraud comes from places like Nigeria and other north African countries and create a credit card company that refuses to offer its service to black people. If you can use a persons gender to deny them your service, then you must be able to use colour as well. Maybe religion and sexuality too.

ok so at the begining of last month I bought some new presciption glasses and frames at lenscrafters and paid with a check from my credit card company (one of those special offers that has a 1.99% apr)... I got the checks in the mail 2 days prior to using it and I tore off the one check and shredded the rest, the problem is that the check was returned because they said it was expired yet I recieved it 2 days before and I don%26#039;t think it was expired.... anyways I got the fee refunded from my credit card company and yesterday I recieved a letter from a collection agency trying to collect for lenscrafters.... I never once got a phone call from lenscrafters or was notified in any way before it was sent to debt collectors.... The agency will only take forms of cash and I don%26#039;t have it, that is why it was suppost to go on my credit card account... I%26#039;m leaving for a week on vacation in 3 days and have no idea what to do... can they do that without contacting me, any info or advice??

Help Help Help!!!?

Go to Lenscrafters, explain what happened with the credit card company, tell them the company straightened out their mistake on the check and refunded any penalty, and pay for the glasses with your credit card. They will know right away if the credit card is accepted. Be sure to get a receipt.

If they accept the payment, ignore the collection agency. If they contact you again, simply tell them that you paid for the glasses and have the receipt to prove it and to leave you alone. I hope it works for you.

Online Job or work from Home?

Why some companies offer too much %26quot;work from home%26quot; and after taht they want to pay them with credit card the %26quot;package%26quot;. Is the offer %26quot;work from home%26quot; is so real? My friend told me that %26quot;work from home%26quot; is some kind of a propaganda and it is not possible. Can you prove it? give some web sites for home from work withoout any fees and creditcard. Are they a %26quot;scam%26quot;?

Online Job or work from Home?

Anytime a company wants to charge you to work from home, you need to exercise EXTREME caution. That being said, there are some legitimate work from home opportunities.

The safest way (in terms of avoiding being scammed by those unscrupulous people who prey on those who are searching for legitimate work from home opportunities) is to start your own home based business.

For example, I am a Virtual Assistant. I provide administrative support to other small businesses. I own my own business and secure my own clients.

There are many legitimate work from home options, but you have to know where to look and you have to be cautious and thoroughly investigate every opportunity. If anyone is asking for money upfront to provide information or to cover %26quot;application costs%26quot; or anything like that, I would view that as a BIG red flag.

Maybe it would be a good idea to visit a website like WAHM.com and browse through their messageboards. They have a lot of different forums for people who currently work from home. I bet you can get some information there.

Ok so Im trying to consolidate a loan, I dont get these APR numbers someone HELP!!! PLEASE!!!?

I have a 6000 loan at 22% (I know its a lot!) and Im trying to consolidate it on to my credit card I just got an offer to do it for %26quot;A fixed 4.99%1 APR until the balances transferred have been completely paid off%26quot; Thats copied straight from the website but if you notice there is a 1 after the % sign and the fine print below states.

1 - A daily periodic rate of .0137%.

What does that mean??? Is this offer too good to be true? Thanks!

Ok so Im trying to consolidate a loan, I dont get these APR numbers someone HELP!!! PLEASE!!!?

First of all, APR stands for annual percentage rate. The daily periodic rate is simply the annual rate divided by 365 days. However, compounding will make the effective rate you pay even higher. If they compound monthly, this will mean your effective rate annually would be about 5.11%. Still, this is a huge improvement over the 22% you are currently paying. However, there should be more terms to the credit card than simply that footnote you mentioned. Is this rate introductory only for a few months? Does it go up significantly after a few months? Are the rates different for withdrawals from the card or late payments?

You should ensure you are aware of ALL terms first. Call the credit card company and have them step you through it.

There are many credit cards out there. Make sure of who you are dealing with as well. The quality of the company/issuer can play a part in the equation.

If this indeed is a great deal then, don%26#039;t see it as an opportunity to make the minimum payments. Make sure to make extra payments to pay this debt down faster.

The last point. Pay down high cost undeductible debt first. Debt where you cannot write off interest costs on your tax return is bad debt to have. Pay it down especially if it is at a high interest rate. Next, pay down high rate deductible debt next.

If you want more information about credit cards you can visit the sites below.

All the best.

Ok so Im trying to consolidate a loan, I dont get these APR numbers someone HELP!!! PLEASE!!!?

loan

APR stands for the annual percentage rate. The daily rate is given so that if you borrowed it and paid it off early then they can figure out the rate per day.

If it is a known company sometimes they do lure new customers in with a low rate. Any new expenses will be at a higher rate, which will be in the fine print.

Good luck! Sounds good.|||Yea theyre just breaking it down into per day ala .0137 x 365 = 5.005. Heck your paying 225 right now, what have you got to lose. But there might be a catch, make sure you are dealing with a legitimate company first.|||your credit card has an interest rate, but by law, they have to disclose the APR based on how they calculate your interest (essentially the stated rate is interest if they charged you 1 time per year, vs. 1 time per day %26amp; then there%26#039;s interest compounding, hence the APR). To go from 22% to 4.99% should be a no brainer. Take it %26amp; don%26#039;t look back.

Could you explain about life insurance, I am a bit clueless?

I receive some life insurance from my employer and so does my husband but that is not near half of what we would need to cover our needs if any of us died. We have small children, a mortgage and debts (cars, credit cards, etc). I have received offers through the mail to get life insurance, but many are for no more than 50K or 100K that%26#039;s just not enough. I also get some offers through the AFT (teachers). What should I know about life insurance. What are the terms used and what do they mean. Where could I read more about this to help me make decisions such as where to buy, what kind, and how much?

Could you explain about life insurance, I am a bit clueless?

contact any insurance company and they would be happy to answer. I will leave for you my suggestion. Its a DIMES worth of insurance

D Death enough to cover funeral expenses usually 10-15,000

I Income replacement Your income times 3-10 years You decide

M Mortgage (Enough to cover Mortgage) I usually don%26#039;t recommend paying it off

E Expenses other debts, car loans credit cards student loans

S Savings 3-6 months of savings, Money to mourn or don%26#039;t have to worry about work right away.

Add them up and subtract what you have in place

Insurance rates are banded so you find discounted rates as cross over 100,000- 250,000- 500,000- 750,000.

So choose appropriately.

If you are young I would take out a 30 year term. Also but money into another retirement vehicle so if you out life the policy you have final expense money available. If you purchase through work you generally end up with Group term that changes rates annually. I hope this helps.

Could you explain about life insurance, I am a bit clueless?

There are quite a few websites that you can turn to for reliable information.

I used to be in the insurance business, and one of my favorite sites at the time to help clients learn about insurance was:

http://www.insurance.com/FAQs/LifeFAQs.a...

It%26#039;s been years since I went out there, I can%26#039;t imagine that they are any less reliable.

I do NOT suggest that you buy additional life insurance on line or that you buy from an envelope in your mailbox. You should go to a reliable person that will come to your home and sit down with the two of you, going over your bills and your estimated upcoming bills (new home, kids in school, braces, etc) and help you figure out how much you actually need.

Where do you have your house or renters insurance? That may be a good place to start, because at least you feel comfortable with that person/company. If you aren%26#039;t comfortable with that thought, go to your HR representative and they probably have some cards or names of people they can turn you on to.

Good luck. It%26#039;s tough to talk about, but an important thing that you have to do!|||Don%26#039;t buy your life insurance over the internet or through a mail flyer. Start with the guy that writes your house/car insurance, and if he can%26#039;t do it, ask him for a LOCAL referral. That guy can sit down with you for a few hours, and explain all the different terms and policy types.

Hint: Decide in advance, BEFORE you talk to this guy, what exactly you want the insurance to accomplish for you. That way, you won%26#039;t be buying any extra (read expensive) add ons that don%26#039;t meet your goals.|||None of the answers recommended that you purchase term insurance instead of whole or universal life insurance. I supspect they are posted by insurance agents who would rather sell the overpriced whole policies than affordable term insurance. They make a much higher commission on those policies. I suggest that you buy term insurance if you are cash strapped, instead of whole/universal life because the coverage is much greater per dollar spent. Although term life does not build cash value it does what you need insurance to do PROTECT YOU AGAINST A CATOSTROPHIC EVENT for a specified period of time. The cash value builds in a whole life policy at a snails pace since it cannot be fully amortized until your age is 100! Often the first two years of premiums go towards the agent%26#039;s commission. The difference between the cost of a term life policy and a whole life policy can instead be invested at a much greater rate of return. This difference is significant you can afford much more coverage when you buy term. Assuming you are disciplined enough to save it.
